TOURETTE DUO FINED

Frank Reed and John Durton, both local men, were summonsed for using obscene language and fighting in Capel.

Police Officer Mannington told the court he had seen the men fighting and uttering disgusting language.

They used the bad language so often they did not know when they did so. They both said they were sorry but the magistrates imposed a fine of 10s (£50 today) or seven days in jail in default.

Reed was allowed a week in which to pay but Durton said he would serve the seven days, saying he was a poor man and his furniture was not worth the amount.

Turning to Reed, he held out his hand and said: "So long, old pal," before departing to the cells.
