MELVYN JENNER

MELVYN JENNER, OCTOBER 2017

BORN NOV 27 1953, IN FIVE OAK GREEN. I THINK I WAS BORN AT 7 LARKFIELD, IN THE HOUSE. I MAY HAVE BEEN BORN AT PEMBURY HOSPITAL BUT MUM AND DAD AREN'T ABOUT NOW TO ASK THEM. I HAVE AN OLDER BROTHER BARRY AND A SISTER MELANIE. DAD AND MUM WERE ALBERT AND ALICE

DAD WAS AN INSURANCE AGENT THOUGH HE HAD LOTS OF DIFFERENT JOBS IN HIS YOUNGER DAYS. HE WORKED HIS WAY UP AND ENDED UP IN UNITED FRIENDLY IN TONBRIDGE AS MANAGER. HE STARTED OFF ON COLLECTING ROUNDS, THE OLD SHILLING A WEEK JOB.

GRANDMA AND GRANDAD WERE OVER AT COOKLANDS IN WHETSTED ROAD. HE WAS QUITE OLD WHEN HE DIED. HE WAS PART OF MY GROWING UP THOUGH NOT INVOLVED UNTIL LATER IN LIFE BECAUSE HE LIKED TO HAVE A DRINK SO I USED TO SEE HIM IN PUBS. HE USED TO TALK AWAY. WE GOT ON VERY WELL. HE WAS TOM JENNER. THERE WAS UNCLE TOM JENNER AS WELL

GRANDAD TOM WORKED ON THE FARM NEXT DOOR T0 COOKLANDS COTTGAGES. IT'S NOT THERE NOW. HE USED TO WORK IN THE OAST HOUSE AND DOWN AT MOAT FARM WHEN IT WAS A FARM. HE DIED I WHEN I WAS ABOUT 18,

I WENT TO CAPEL SCHOOL AS DID MY DAD, MY BROTHER, SISTER AND MY KIDS. WHEN I WAS THERE THEY USED TO HAVE SPORTS DAY TRIALS BECAUSE THEY DIDN'T HAVE A FIELD THEN SO SPORTS DAY WAS JUST RUNNING IN THE PLAYGROUND.

MR. STINTON USED TO DO TRIALS UP CHURCH LANE. MR AND MRS STINTON LIVED UP THERE. ONE PARTICULAR YEAR I BEAT THE FASTEST IN THE SCHOOL -- GREG VARREL.

I WAS THE FASTEST KID IN THE WEST BUT IT DIDN'T DO ME ANY GOOD. I USED TO PLAY FOR CAPEL JUNIORS. MINORS THEY WERE CALLED THEN. I USED TO PLAY ON THE WING FOR OBVIOUS REASONS I USED TO TEAR UP AND DOWN.
