CHURCHES HIT HARD TIMES

The hard times which have fallen on churches in Capel and Tudeley have prompted Capel Parish Council to give the parochial church council a grant for the upkeep of their churchyards.

Capel and Tudeley churches are to get £6O (£500 today) each with £lO (£80) going to the parish's Congregational Church.

Mr Richard Clarke. chairman of Capel Community Association, suggested at Monday's parish council meeting that an appeal be launched for volunteers to do the work.

But Mr Harry Rose thought setting aside a special amount of money was the best way to get the job done. Mr Rose hoped that the situation would improve with the arrival. in April, of the Rev. Francis Minay, who replaces the recently retired Rev. Frank Forbes as vicar.
